First Fishing Trip 2010

Dennis and I went to the creek yesterday to see if we could catch a few. Beautiful day, sun shining, light breeze through the trees, but no fish biting. Had fun cruising around in the canoe going down then back up then back down the creek. The water was up from what it usually is and all those trees and debris that was piled up on the side has washed away from all the rain that we've had. Clear and smooth sailing until we decided it was time to go. I don't know where the idea that we could paddl… Continue

First Spring Turkey Hunt

Growing up in Florida turkeys were always around while we hunted deer in the fall. Back then you could harvest hens and toms in the fall. I had taken plenty of turkeys growing up, but had never really hunted them in the spring. I returned to Florida after spending about four years away stationed up in Brunswick, Maine. Proud day to be a dad

My son Hunter and I have not been able to get in the woods together as much as we would like this year. With football, baseball, wrestling and school his free time is very limited. He missed a buck with his bow and could not wait till muzzle loading season started. We were not able to get in the woods on Saturday due to football and the conference championship game. We lost 32 to 6 and he was really down because of this. I keep telling him to keep his head up and we would be in the woods tomorro… Continue

Pee Dee NWR - Youth Hunt

My son drew a tag for the October 3rd Youth Hunt at the Pee Dee NWR. I have hunted there on a draw hunt last November and killed the only deer I saw (a medium-sized 8-point) on one of the creek bottoms. I'm hoping to put him in postion to see more deer if possible. Any advice about where, time of day, over the cut corn or standing beans, Richmond County side or Anson, etc... I dove-hunted there last week and the managers have cut corn all over the refuge. Also, acorns are just starting to fall b… Continue
